BGG #4847

In Celtic legend, faefolk align themselves with courts of influence over the ancient lands. The Seelie are allies of spring and growth, while the Unseelie are those of cold and trickery. In Pacts, you shall rule one of these two courts, facing your eternal opponent in a duel of wits. Before starting, each of you will gain the assistance of mythological creatures such as dragons, banshees, and selkies to give you the edge. Each round, cards are dealt, where one player will split the possible actions between two piles, while the other will select who gets which set. You will each place, move, and remove influence across six regions and see who rules these sacred places, seeking majority control. The player who scores the best after three and six rounds will be declared the new ruler of this great isle. This is a two-player dueler finished with a touch of legendary extravagance, a focused plaything of tactics and strategy worthy of the fae queen herself. —description from the publisher

Oliva

PYTHAGORAS · 2025

BGG #4868
1–425–45 min7.0
In Oliva, you take on the role of a farmer competing to become the most successful olive oil producer in the region. By managing your farm, you harvest olives, press them into olive oil, and sell your products to various markets worldwide. During your turn, you select and reveal action cards to perform their corresponding actions. Your actions become more powerful based on the cards visible on all players' boards. Oliva is played over a certain number of rounds based on the player count. After the final round is completed, the farmer with the most victory points is the winner. The significance of olive oil dates back to Visigothic times, when laws protected olive trees. Arabic influence later expanded olive cultivation, and their word al-zait evolved into the modern terms Azeite in Portuguese and Aceite in Spanish. Portugal's olive oil industry became a major export powerhouse, gaining recognition at the 1889 Paris Exposition. In the 20th century, Portugal began industrializing its olive cultivation methods. The 1950s marked a golden era, with record expansion of olive groves and unprecedented yields, despite the persistence of small-scale local production. Export markets flourished in Asia, the USA, and European markets with Portuguese communities, alongside colonial trade. As industrialization progressed, farmers turned to more profitable crops such as potatoes and wine grapes, leading to a decline in olive cultivation until the early 21st century. Today, the Mediterranean region maintains its reputation for excellence, producing 95% of the world's olive oil. Oliva captures 1950s and 1960s Portuguese olive oil production, featuring water-powered, large stone mills and hand operated presses. The game pays tribute to farmers' expertise and dedication, showcasing traditional methods using sisal mats, stone-carved basins, and furnace-heated water to extract the precious liquid. In North Africa, particularly Morocco and Tunisia, traditional olive oil production excelled during the 1950s, with many small scale producers using age-old pressing techniques passed down through generations. These regions were known for their robust, peppery oils produced from indigenous olive varieties that were well-adapted to the arid Mediterranean climate. Oliva depicts both traditional and modernizing production methods, highlighting the productivity of small olive groves that may still be admired today on Portugal's hillsides. The game reflects Mediterranean olive oil production's scope and quality, as Spain nears Italy's production levels, followed closely by Greece and Turkey.

Hordes

Privateer Press · 2006

BGG #4869
2–860 min7.5
Hordes can be viewed as either an expansion to Warmachine, or a totally separate game using the same system. Either way, it contains four new factions and is based on the same system. It is 100% compatible with Warmachine. Rather than the steampunk theme of Warmachine, Hordes focuses on the more primitive tribal powers: Trollblood, Skorne, Legion of Everblight, Circle Orboros, Farrow (pig-men) and Gatormen. They wage war with great warbeasts in place of warjacks and, instead of warcasters, have warlocks that draw power from their beasts.

BGG #4870
1–430–120 min7.5
2GM Tactics is a full-fledged strategy card war-game where units are represented by cards and you’ll be in command of your army. You’ll have to build your deck to achieve the goals you’ve been tasked for. Gear up your troops for the battle; deploy all type of units: armor, artillery and transport units; request air support and deceive your enemy. Lead Patton or Rommel to the final victory; seize buildings; destroy your enemy and conquer the battlefield! Play historical scenarios: go ashore in Normandy, defend Monte Cassino or dig in the Ardennes! You can play 2GM TWG in two ways. You can play a “Battle Royal” - players will establish a number of points, they will set up the battlefield prior commencing the battle and the goal is to destroy your opponent’s Head Quarter; or you can play a “Scenario” – historical or not – with a predefined set of rules to deploy units and the terrain, and pre-established conditions of victory. In a player’s turn you’ll gain a number of “Action Points” that will be used to deploy new units on the battlefield and to employ other supporting cards. These Action Points will increase by several ways as the game evolves. “Objectives” to achieve the victory during a game are very diverse: from destroying your opponent’s HQ to capture the battlefield or inflict a specific number of kills to your enemy. Seizing or bombing a building, capturing enemy’s supplies, rescue a flag objective or hold a position for a number of turns are other ways to achieve the victory. The game includes three different decks: one for the American Army, one for the German Army and a third double-sided deck to represent different types of Terrain. Each side’s deck is composed by cards representing unique types of units and supporting cards. Different types of units - infantry, vehicle, armor, aircraft and transport -, all with their own specific capabilities and with additional equipment to be deployed. Supporting cards are assorted: you may find “Equipment”, “Promotion”, “Mines”, and “Diversion”, among others. Terrain deck includes anything that is needed to make every single battle a unique experience. Additionally, you´ll find Help and Summary cards along with Flag Generals that will improve your army with their command abilities; 2d10 and more than 100 counters (damage counters, victory points, etc.) and additional equipment to gear up our units depending on the situation.
