How will you master the battles that are to come on the field, in the senate and through the streets of Rome? Catacombs & Castles

Elzra · 2017

BGG #4875
2–830–60 min6.8
Catacombs and Castles is a standalone game featuring a "Catacomb" team of heroes vs a "Castle" team of heroes. The game serves as an introduction to the Catacombs world and dexterity game system, so it features simplified, fast game play with some new mechanisms. As in Catacombs, players flick pieces around a board to simulate combat, with cards and special powers dictating how you can move and attack. Catacombs and Castles supports up to eight players competitively (in "Team Mode") and up to four co-operatively (players teamed against an 'Overseer' player called "Boss Mode"). The game is compatible with the third edition of Catacombs, serving as an expansion for that title with a new board, and will be compatible with the Catacombs: Wyverns of Wylemuir expansion.

Everyone has their own deck of 24 cards, with cards numbered 1-8 in three colors. You must play these cards wisely over three rounds because each turn whoever plays the highest card in a suit receives points equal to the round number. Played cards are removed from the game, whereas unplayed hand cards return to your deck for use in subsequent rounds. In the end, whoever has the fewest points wins.

Ystari Games · 2009

BGG #4889
2–530–60 min6.2
Bombay sees the players take on the role of Merchants in the land of India. In this pick-up and deliver game the players seek to acquire goods at trading posts and deliver them to the cities where they are in demand. Of course they must do so on Elephant back and along the way they can build Palaces, which can earn them riches should the opposition be forced to travel through them. Driving the play, each player must make use of a limited number of Action Points each turn. Visiting each city earns a City Token and having 3 or 4 of these earns rupees. Rupees are also earned for building palaces and collecting client tokens over the course of the game. The players with the best 3 totals also earn rupees and the most rupees gained at the end of the game determines the winner. During the game the players will acquire goods which they will try to resell at the best price in four cities. Each type of good has its own market where the prices of the goods will fluctuate. To transport their goods, each player owns a charming elephant able to transport up to two bundles. Up to now Bombay will be one of Ystari's lightest games. It's the third game of author Cyril Demaegd. Illustrations are by Stéphane Poinsot.
